During peak times at Munich’s Oktoberfest, the kitchen in the Tradition beer tent serves up to 8,000 hungry and thirsty festivalgoers.
The tent requires a great deal of power, consuming some 200,000 kWh at each Oktoberfest (which takes place on what is known locally as the ‘Wiesn’). Around 70% of this power consumption is attributed to the huge kitchen. When grills, dishwashers and patio heaters are all operating at the same time, it is not unusual to see peak loads of 700 kilowatts – and, with some of the tents facing demand rates of over EUR 160 per kW, the bills quickly start adding up.
With a storage system from TESVOLT, the tent operators can accommodate peak loads from the storage system and thereby massively reduce their grid charges.
