The cattle farm belonging to Heiner Meevissen lies in Brüggen, an area in the westernmost part of North Rhine-Westphalia and just a few kilometres from the Dutch border. Animal farming is energy intensive. Meevissen has to provide illumination for his cattle stalls and cool them in the summer with fans. He also has to pump water and run feeding and milking systems. In busy years, Meevissen’s electricity bill can run to
up to EUR 35,000.
Yet with a total of 4,500 m2 of barns on his land, Meevissen has a huge hidden potential at his disposal: sunlit surfaces. He has therefore installed a 400 kWp photovoltaic installation in stages. In addition to this, Meevissen is buying a TESVOLT TS 48 V lithium-ion battery storage system with a discharging power of 18 kW so that he can also use electricity at night.
