Wittenberg/Berlin, Germany, 12 September 2018 – Tesvolt, a manufacturer of storage systems for industry and commerce, has won the renowned German Entrepreneur Award. The distinction was handed over to the Wittenberg-based company yesterday at an award ceremony at the ZDF studio in Berlin. The panel of judges named Tesvolt one of the most successful start-ups in all of Germany in the past few years. The German Entrepreneur Award is presented each year in cooperation with partners from Stern magazine, Sparkassen savings cooperative, ZDF television and Porsche.
Flexible company organisation without a management level
“Innovative start-ups shape tomorrow’s economy. We are very proud to be a part of it,” says Daniel Hannemann, Founder of Tesvolt. “Tesvolt has thrived from the start in great part thanks to the people who work here and our new, flexible company organisation. Executives don’t create a bottleneck in the process because our decisions are only made as a team, giving individuals a chance to optimally apply themselves and unlock their full potential. This enables a great degree of innovation.”
Significant market potential
Daniel Hannemann and Simon Schandert established the company in 2014. The two engineers started out by using their own savings to develop their very first prototype storage solution. The company found strong partners in SMA and Samsung SDI. SMA Solar Technology supplies the powerful inverters used in Tesvolt’s storage systems, while Samsung provides the lithium-based prismatic high-efficiency cells of the kind used in state-of-the-art electric cars. “Our storage systems are being sold all over the world in the areas of industry and commerce,” Hannemann reports. “And the market keeps growing, the sales volume potential for battery manufacturers is already anticipated to reach 250 billion euros in Europe in 2025.”
Worldwide unique storage technology
The panel of judges appraised Tesvolt’s storage systems as a worldwide unique product. “What makes our storage systems so exceptional is the battery management system,” says Simon Schandert, co-founder of Tesvolt. It makes Tesvolt storage systems especially durable and economical. “While other storage systems on the market fall short when it comes to cost efficiency, Tesvolt’s products pay for themselves within a few years – even without subsidies.”
The battery management system ensures that the battery cells are always optimally charged and discharged. The active cell balancing is not just limited to the cells within a battery module, but the different battery modules are also optimized to fit with each other. This system is unparalleled in the world. The Active Battery Optimizer monitors the temperature, voltage and state of charge of each individual cell or battery module, significantly boosting the cells’ lifespan. This gives Tesvolt storage systems a service life of up to 30 years, equivalent to around 8,000 complete charge cycles with a depth of discharge (DoD) of 100 percent. At 92 percent, Tesvolt storage systems also achieve one of the highest whole-system efficiency ratings found on the market.
Over 1,000 international projects
More than 1,000 customers are already using Tesvolt storage systems worldwide. For example, in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Tesvolt storage systems help to ensure that the city’s exhibition centre has a secure power supply. In Australia, a Tesvolt storage system frees an avocado plantation from relying on a power grid and in Mali, Tesvolt storage systems provide 250,000 people with solar power.
TESVOLT AG is one of the innovation and market leaders for commercial and industrial energy storage system solutions in Germany and Europe. TESVOLT products enable companies to end their energy dependency and play a part in the energy transition. The agile company produces intelligent lithium storage systems with power ratings from 10 kilowatt hours through to multiple megawatt hours – with top quality and TÜV-certified safety. TESVOLT manufactures its commercial storage system solutions in series production at its own carbon-neutral gigafactory in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and delivers them worldwide. The company has already received several awards, including the German Entrepreneur Award in the “Rising Stars” category, “Innovator of the Year” from TOP 100 and the smarter E Award in the “Outstanding Projects” category.
