SMA and TESVOLT Cooperate in the Battery-Storage System Sector

Niestetal, March 17, 2016 – SMA Solar Technology AG cooperates with commercial storage system manufacturer TESVOLT. SMA has now qualified TESVOLT’s lithium storage system for use with the SMA Sunny Island battery inverter. The combined system of battery and battery inverter can be used in PV systems, CHP plants and wind power plants as well as in hydroelectric power plants. It enables companies in the commercial sector to sustainably and cost-effectively reduce their energy costs.

“Qualifying TESVOLT’s lithium storage systems for use with SMA inverters was an important step for us,” said Volker Wachenfeld, Executive Vice President of the Offgrid & Storage business unit at SMA. “It offers companies new energy storage options that help them maximize their self-consumption of PV power. The Sunny Island inverter was developed to optimize the performance and efficiency of energy supply systems, and can be used in both off-grid and grid-tied systems.”

In addition to being able to be used in almost every type of energy generation system connected to the low-voltage grid, the combination of a lithium battery-storage system and Sunny Island battery inverter also offers unlimited use in off-grid applications.

“Our battery-storage systems, in combination with the Sunny Island, have one of the highest levels of overall system efficiency on the market currently at 79 to 84%,” said Simon Schandert, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at TESVOLT. “This high level of efficiency ensures that businesses are often able to generate their own electricity for only 9 to 14 cents per kWh—with the original costs for the storage system and PV system already factored in.”

About SMA
The SMA Group with sales of around €1 billion in 2016 is the global market leader for solar inverters, a key component of all PV plants. SMA offers a wide range of products and solutions that allow for high energy yields for residential and commercial PV systems and large-scale PV power plants. To increase PV self-consumption efficiently, SMA system technology can easily be combined with different battery technologies. Intelligent energy management solutions, comprehensive services and operational management of PV power plants round off SMA’s range. The company is headquartered in Niestetal, near Kassel, Germany, is represented in 20 countries and has more than 3,000 employees worldwide, including 500 working in Development. SMA’s multi-award-winning technology is protected by more than 900 patents and utility models. Since 2008, the Group’s parent company, SMA Solar Technology AG, has been listed on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (S92) and is currently the only company in the solar industry that is listed in the TecDAX index.

About Tesvolt
TESVOLT specializes in commercial battery storage systems. The innovative company from Lutherstadt Wittenberg produces storage systems with the most modern battery cells: prismatic lithium cells from Samsung SDI based on nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide. TESVOLT storage systems function just as well at low voltage as at high voltage, and can be connected to all energy producers: sun, wind, water, biogas and combined heat and power — on-grid and off-grid.
The TESVOLT commercial storage solutions are manufactured in the first Gigafactory for battery storage systems in Europe at the Wittenberg location.

TESVOLT was awarded the German Entrepreneur Award in 2018 in the category "Rising Star". For the off-grid power supply of an avocado farm in southwestern Australia, TESVOLT received the "The smarter E award" in the "Outstanding projects" category as well as the International Award for Rural Electrification (ARE).
