TESVOLT introduces a 500-kWh energy storage system and realigns its storage strategy

Combination of Chinese storage hardware and proprietary software reduces costs

Wittenberg, March 25, 2026 – TESVOLT is introducing the “PowerCore G2”, a 500-kWh battery energy storage system for the first time, designed for commercial, industrial, and smaller utility-scale projects. The system is based on hardware from Chinese Tier-1 manufacturer WHES and is equipped with TESVOLT’s proprietary software for control and cybersecurity. This enables TESVOLT to offer high-quality energy storage systems at significantly lower costs.

Paradigm shift at TESVOLT: hardware from China, software developed in-house

“Until recently, commercial energy storage systems manufactured in Germany were still competitive. However, in recent years Chinese manufacturers have invested so heavily in the development of C&I and utility-scale storage systems that they can now offer technologically mature solutions at significantly lower costs. We are now leveraging this for TESVOLT,” explains Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder of TESVOLT.

TESVOLT carefully selects suitable systems, subjects them to comprehensive technical testing, and integrates its own software. “For our customers, this means they receive first-class and very secure complete systems at a better price, while we remain their direct point of contact - from planning and construction to operation, maintenance, and even energy trading,” Schandert adds.

Payback periods of three to four years possible

The reduced system price significantly improves the economic viability of energy storage. For example, when the PowerCore G2 is used for peak shaving, payback periods of around four years and returns of 20 to 25 percent are possible. Multi-use applications and the use of dynamic electricity tariffs can also be implemented even more economically with this system.

Proprietary software increases cybersecurity

“We integrate our own gateway, energy management system, and the TESVOLT Energy Controller, which manage the entire external and internal communication of the storage system,” says Leonard Friese, Product Manager at TESVOLT. “Updates are carried out, for example, via controlled interfaces that are only temporarily enabled, and data communication is fully encrypted. This increases cybersecurity and allows us to maintain full system control independently of the hardware manufacturer.”

Proven in over 1,000 projects worldwide

The PowerCore G2 energy storage system uses LFP battery cells from CATL and, according to WHES, is already deployed in more than 1,000 projects worldwide. The outdoor system has corrosion protection class C5 and is suitable for demanding environments such as coastal regions. It can operate at ambient temperatures from –20 to +55 °C and complies with the requirements of VDE-AR-N 4110. The inverter is fully integrated. A multi-stage safety concept combines active and passive fire protection measures. Deliveries of the system will begin in May 2026.
