TESVOLT and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg sign cooperation agreement

Collaboration on energy storage systems

Magdeburg, 11 May 2023 – TESVOLT AG, one of the innovation and market leaders for commercial and industrial energy storage solutions, and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) today announced a partnership in the field of battery technology. The framework agreement was signed by OVGU Rector Prof. Jens Strackeljan and the three members of the TESVOLT AG Management Board.

State Secretary Thomas Wünsch from the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment also took part in the event in the university library and delivered a welcome note. Ellen Matthies, Professor of Environmental Psychology at the OVGU, gave a lecture with the subject “Science, technology and transformation – rethinking the world together!”.

As part of the agreement, TESVOLT and the University of Magdeburg will now examine what a close scientific cooperation in the field of energy storage systems might look like in the years to come. Both partners are planning to cooperate on scientific projects that explore new energy storage approaches and further develop existing battery technologies. They will also discuss the idea of establishing an endowed professorship funded by TESVOLT.

“This partnership with TESVOLT is a great opportunity for promoting the important specialist area of energy storage and electrical engineering,” said Professor Jens Strackeljan, Rector of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. “On the one hand, we will be collaborating on highly relevant research projects. On the other, we will be able to offer our students excellent learning and research opportunities at the TESVOLT site in Wittenberg, which I am particularly pleased about.”

“We are looking forward to collaborating with the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg to develop new solutions for the energy storage market,” said Simon Schandert, CTO of TESVOLT AG. “The cooperation promises an ideal combination of theory and practice. Together we will try out innovative approaches to the challenges of the energy transition and convert them into sustainable solutions.”

In the future, OVGU students could, for example, gain practical experience in the training rooms and battery labs of the TESVOLT Gigafactory. Student seminars could also take place at the practical partner’s site in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

Dr. Victor Schäfer, TESVOLT battery expert: “Our battery technology centre is intended to give students at the University of Magdeburg the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and gain valuable practical experience in their specialist area. This will not only prepare them for a successful career in electrical engineering, but will also allow TESVOLT to get to know the next generation of highly qualified specialists and support them in their education.”
